Abstract

Shark Tank is a popular TV series, boasting over 7.5 million viewers per week, and can be seen on ABC on Friday evenings. The purpose of this study is to determine how much demographic factors influence which entrepreneurs are chosen to compete on the show. This study questions whether the demographic of the participants on the show mirror the demographic of the viewing audience? It also questions if and to what extent race and/or gender influence whether a participant is chosen for the show. If chosen, will the participant’s race and/or gender be a factor in whether they get a deal. Finally, the study explores how a participant’s demographic factors influence which judge chooses their product.
