Abstract

This study will examine the products and services that pique the greatest level of interest from the sharks of the fabulously successful television show, "Shark Tank." Are the sharks interested in specific types of industries that are more likely to receive an offer? In which types of products and services are they most frequently investing? Finally, how do the sharks differ according to the product or service categories that they bid for? These are just a few of the questions that will be explored in this study. The researcher identified multiple trends and themes among the products and services for which offers were extended by the “sharks,†with the majority of the products and services being showcased as falling into one of the following categories, ranging from most popular to least common: Food and food-related merchandise (60); fashion, apparel, jewelry, and other accessories (58); sports, exercise, fitness, and leisure activities (40); home improvement, décor, and other household items (30); kids’ toys and other products geared towards children (27); health and beauty (23); emerging technology and electronics (22); safety and security (10); education (9); and finally, pet-related products and services (8). A total of 12 offers were extended to products or services that fell within miscellaneous categories that did not correspond to one of the aforementioned product/service themes.
