About Us:
NABET, formally known as The Association of
Pennsylvania University Business and Economics (APUBEF), was founded thirty years ago by a small
group of business and economics professors of the Pennsylvania State
System of Higher Education (SSHE). The SSHE system, as it was known
then was comprised of fourteen universities located throughout
Pennsylvania.
Each of these
fourteen schools was originally founded as a teacher’s college
(a Normal School). Several of these schools have traditions
dating as far back as the mid-nineteenth century. Each has
grown to be universities, and each is part of the Pennsylvania
state system. Years ago, the business faculty of these fourteen
schools had little opportunity to present scholarly works at the
large national conferences. Hence, APUBEF was founded.
Originally the organization had the stated
purpose of providing a forum for academic exploration and discussion
of issues germane to the educational, societal and political
environments in Pennsylvania. However, in recent years the
organization has expanded beyond its original purpose. APUBEF
and now NABET, via
its annual conference, currently offer a significant platform for
presentation of the academic works of the professors of nearly forty
colleges of business throughout Pennsylvania as well as some nearby
states (New Jersey and New York).
The Annual Meeting occurs in October of each
year and has been traditionally held in State College,
Pennsylvania. Papers presented at the conference can be published
in the Proceedings (non-refereed). NABET also publishes a double blind referred journal, the
Pennsylvania Journal of Business and Economics (listed in
Cabell’s). Papers presented at the conference,
as well as papers originating elsewhere, may be submitted to the
Journal for publication. However, publication is subject to a
legitimate review process.
NABET and APUBEF have a
valued history and its Executive Board is planning to keep the
organization dynamic. We are always interested in good papers
for our conference and publications, and we are interested in
the ideas and involvement of new people.
Consider making
NABET part of your future scholarly activities.
The Thirtieth Annual Meeting will be October
25th and 26th, 2007 at the Days Inn, State College,
Pennsylvania.
The NABET and APUBEF
Executive Board wishes to express its appreciation for the efforts
of Professor William Eddins, York College of Pennsylvania, in the
development of this website.
