Michael Bruder

Last modified: 2011-09-08

Abstract

This report examines prior research in the areas of Realistic Job Preview, Psychological Contracts, Brunswik Lens Analysis, and Yale Information Source Hypothesis. It attempts to determine if there is a gap between recent graduates’ expectations and the reality of the job market offerings. Groups of recruiters, recent graduates, and faculty/staff were asked to fill out three surveys. The results indicated that there was a gap in recent graduates’ expectations and the reality of what recruiters were offering for starting salary or job title. Further study is needed to determine the direction of this gap, and what can be done to close this gap.
